Tobias & Comer Law, LLC is excited to be involved with WPMI NBC 15 News ‘MAKING SPIRITS BRIGHT’ this year in support of Dwell Mobile. Every year, local businesses help local non-profit agencies and this year we partnered with Dwell Mobile. Dwell provides opportunities for refugees who have been resettled in Mobile by helping them create a home here and thrive through programs of education.
Here is the news story that aired on WPMI NBC-15 in Mobile, Alabama:
“We wanted to get involved with Dwell because they are such a small organization that doesn’t get a lot of publicity, said Bryan Comer, partner with Tobias & Comer Law, LLC law firm. “They do amazing work with limited resources, so we thought this was an organization that needed highlighted.”
Refugees can face averages of 5-7 years in refugee camps before “resettlement.” In Mobile, approximately 100 people are resettled each year by Catholic Social Services Resettlement Program. At this point is where Dwell steps in to help the refugees with the important skills to build a successful life. This could include education, language skills, gaining citizenship, driving, etc… They also help with the many practical issues that come up with everyday life like finding food sources, healthcare, schools, and connecting to utilities.
There are programs and education for children as well. Students spend an hour each week with tutors and get to participate on Dwell’s soccer team.
At the end of the day, Dwell helps remove obstacles so that the refugees can start a successful new life. Dwell Mobile is always in need of volunteers, or even donations. If you are interested in helping out with Dwell, please visit their website: https://www.dwellmobile.org/programs
